A LOOK BACK

The South Perkasie Hotel, built around 1850 at the intersection of Main and Walnut Streets, was once a popular stop for Lehigh Valley merchants and farmers traveling to Philadelphia. In 1908, it was transformed into a renowned cattle market, where thousands of cattle, horses, and pigs were traded. It also became the birthplace of the “combination sale,” which we know today as the flea market.

In 1975, George Nacarella acquired the South Perkasie Hotel at a backyard auction, and his son Larry promptly redeveloped it into a bustling restaurant and community space now known as The Perk. The Perk’s walls are adorned with photos of Perkasie sports teams and vintage images from the first half of the 20th century, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that honors the town’s rich heritage.

The Perk has been a labor of love for Larry, and over the years, it has become a beloved local staple. Larry always envisioned it as a place where the Pennridge community could gather to share food, laughter, and life.  He hopes it continues to be that special place for many years to come. Many of the Perk’s team have grown alongside the restaurant and take pride in being part of a place so deeply rooted in the Perkasie community.
